Dressing up is all about imagining yourself in others’ lives. You start from researching the theme of the evening and choosing your outfit carefully, then you go shopping for accessories, exchange ideas with your friends, and ultimately, you transport yourself into another epoch – a time full of suspense, whisper, and secrets. The Spies Came in from the Cold was the theme of the evening organised at Pushkin House by Russian Revels, a charming duo of Russian-speaking Karina and Katrina, who introduce themselves as designers of unique gastronomic experiences that combine Slavic dishes with immersive theatre.

Our brief read:

1959. London. The Cold War is at its peak.
You are a spy in training. You receive an envelope summoning you to come for a briefing at HQ.
There you will be trained how to pass as a citizen – Soviet or American, you won’t know till then. How to handle your drink and give a proper toast are just as important as good morals… 

Pushkin House on Bloomsbury Square in London was transformed into Soviet pavilions with farm-made sausages, potato salad, and more beetroot that you can shake a stick at; together with American-style stands with slow-cooked burgers, corn bread, and Betty Crocker cakes. The evening ended downstairs, in a shady bar with a captivating performance by the beautiful singer Julia Reichwald, closing with endless jig and boogie.
