There is a long and winding road leading through the island of Skiathos up to the top of the mountain, where the Monastery of Panagia Evangelistria is located. Surrounded by lush greenery and opening to a beautiful sea vista, the Monastery is an important religious centre that also houses an exhibition of local products, wine, and olive oil. As I walked through endless wine barrels, fragrant rose gardens, lemon and apricot trees, making friends with most nonchalant cats I met in my life (that making friends bit? Don’t tell Dave!), I was astonished by the peaceful energy of the building, the natural beauty of its gardens, and its friendly atmosphere. You could tell immediately it is a place for the soul. For a while, I sat outside on a bench thinking of love and life and assuming that it would be very disrespectful of me to enter a place of worship in a strapless top. Little did I know that I was sitting outside their wine shop… That beautiful choir singing? A CD! And that guy in priest robes? A tour guide! All that blissful, reflective expression on my face, that feeling of self-righteousness and meditative glory – all outside a wine shop! Luckily, I quickly recovered from my faux pas, asked where the main church was, and went in to light a candle for those I love and for those I think about all the time. With my spiritual side duly nourished, I rushed to have an amazing pizza and a Greek salad in the 360-degree Panorama: a famous local restaurant overlooking the town of Skiathos and surrounded by different types of roses, bougainvillea, and jasmine. If you ever make your way there, promise you will give that jasmine a sniff from me?

Скиафос – небольшой, живописный остров в Эгейском море. Симпатичные белые домики с черепичными крышами, бирюзовое море и просторные пляжи, розовые сады, лимонные и абрикосовые деревья. Основная достопримечательность острова – Монастырь Евангелистриас (Благовещения), который находится высоко в горах. Решив, что заходить в монастырь с непокрытой головой неприлично, я долго сидела на скамейке у входа, размышляя о вечном и пытаясь погрузиться в медитацию… Пока не поняла, что сижу под дверью вино-водочного магазина: оказывается, в монастыре также производится местное вино и оливковое масло! К счастью, я быстро оправилась от такой оплошности и прошла в церковь, чтобы зажечь свечу за здоровье родителей, семьи и, конечно, Дейва. После духовной пищи, как вы понимаете, возникла острая необходимость в обеде, для чего идеально подошел находящийся неподалеку ресторан «Панорама». Горячая пицца, греческий салат, чашка эспрессо – все это в окружении разноцветных благоухающих роз, жасмина и бугенвилии. А вы бывали на греческих островах? Что вам больше всего запомнилось?
