Located on the northernmost point of Skiathos Island, Kastro is a tiny secluded beach hiding between steep hills and small coves. Here you can swim under the ruins of the medieval city’s castle (kastro means ‘castle’ in Greek), watch small boats dock by the shore, and taste most authentic Greek salad and fresh fish prepared right in front of you in a cosy tavern. You can only get to the beach on foot and the road is rather steep, so do not repeat my mistake – bring sensible shoes! Nevertheless, I spent a very peaceful afternoon here, popping in and out of the waves, having a snooze, making friends with local animals, and reading The Vintage Girl by Hester Brown – a romantic novel I picked up at the airport on my way to Skiathos and devoured within a matter of hours! На самой северной части острова Скиафос, про который я начала писать недавно, расположен пляж Кастро. В XVI веке здесь находился замок, укрепленный со всех сторон для защиты от пиратских набегов (по-гречески «кастро» означает «крепость»). Окруженный древними пещерами, пляж Кастро привлекает в основном любителей спокойного отдыха, ведь сюда можно добраться только пешком, вниз по отвесной скале. Это настоящий райский уголок с изумрудной водой, белой галькой и небольшой таверной. Отличное место для того, чтобы погрузиться в романтический мир писательницы Эстер Браун, полный очаровательных принцев, старинных замков и красивых свадеб. За проведенных на пляже Кастро несколько часов я дочитала одну из ее книг, и мне очень хочется поделиться с кем-нибудь впечатлениями. А вы читали Эстер Браун?
