The Rose Garden in Regent’s Park is my mother’s favourite part of London. To my great regret, she was unable to visit me this summer so I thought I’d go exploring and then write a blog post for her. The Rose Garden is a part of Queen Mary’s Circle in the Regent’s Park. It is named after the wife of King George V and is home to about 12,000 roses of hundreds of different varieties. Some of them blood-coloured and potent, others pink and ephemeral, these roses have curious names: Lovely Lady, Double Delight, Heart of Gold, Nostalgia, Velvet Fragrance. They range from the classics to the most famous modern English roses and vary in colour from white, light yellow, and orange to bright red, burgundy, and even lilac. They smell sweet, spicy, musky, and even vanilla-like but disappointingly and perhaps, predictably, the most beautiful of them smelt of nothing.
Did you know my hometown is known as the town of roses? Need to stop by here next September! 😉 Hope your mum enjoyed the virtual trip – I certainly did! 😀
