Tower Poppy Memorial

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

November of every year, the Remembrance Poppy in the UK is used to commemorate soldiers who have died in wars. In the month, leading up to Remembrance Sunday, poppies are distributed by volunteers in return for donations to various veteran funds. It is traditional for everyone in Britain to wear a poppy. This year, the Poppy Appeal has taken unprecedented scale to commemorate the 100 Years since the beginning of the First World War (1914-1918). The poppy memorial around the Tower of London, called Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red, was created by ceramic artist Paul Cummins. There will be 888,246 ceramic poppies planted by Armistice Day on November 11 – one for each British and Colonial soldier perished during the War.
