Fashion trends: fairy tale

As I was reviewing my blog statistics for 2014, I noticed surprisingly that the most popular posts here are my tepid attempts at fashion blogging — for only 2 style posts over the course of the entire year, the blog received more views per day than it would over a whole month. Predictably, and as one of my many New Year’s resolutions, I decided to devote some writing to some fashion pieces and trends from now on. Perhaps once or twice a month? We’ll see. When shopping, I tend to focus mainly on statement pieces and the story behind each. For me, January has always been the time for melancholic reflection, brisk walks in crispy fresh air, seeking colour in the everyday, and reading fairytales by the fire. British winter clearly was the inspiration behind Sarah Burton’s Fall-Winter 2014 Collection for Alexander McQueen — full of exquisitely tactile fabrics, velvet, silk, feathers, and bows, spurring in me a desire to pull out the fishnets, put my best jewellery on, and finish it off with red lipstick. My coat comes with a wide black bow to be tied under the chin but I replaced it with a red velvet ribbon and styled the coat with my favourite tartan dress as a curtsy to the clan insignia — do you think Sir McQueen would have approved? Who knows… Every time I do a style post, my self-consciousness rears its ugly head and starts whispering that it is all a bit too much of a look-at-me and who would possibly want to read about that. In an attempt to silence its insistent voice, I made this post more of a fash-off between me and Dave — so now you get to vote: my McQueen coat or Dave’s waxed olive Barbour?

Просматривая статистику блога за прошлый год, я к своему удивлению заметила, что самые популярные записи — это мои робкие попытки писать о любимых тенденциях моды. Всего лишь две записи о стиле за целый год набрали рекордное количество просмотров. Поэтому я решила, что, возможно, в этом году мне стоит больше писать о моде? Однако мне каждый раз кажется, что эта тема мало кому интересна, да и к чему просматривать мои фотографии, если стеллажи газетных киосков и бесчисленное количество интернет-сайтов заполнены огромным количеством фотографий моделей? Чтобы преодолеть мою нерешительность, этот пост больше посвящен сравнению модных тенденций: что вам нравится больше — мое пальто из коллекции Александра Маккуина или пальто на Девиде (моей собаке) традиционной британской марки Barbour? Осенне-зимняя коллекция Маккуина 2014 года посвящена волшебству и сказочным историям: монохромные тона, объемные рукава, банты и кружева, тактильные материалы — бархат, шелк, перья. Ансамбли коллекции явно посвящены английской зиме с ее пронзительными ветрами, холодным солнцем и вечерам у камина. А о чем вам напоминает эта коллекция?
