Two years ago, in February 2013, I started my blog with a review of the annual Orchid Show at Kew Gardens in London, in which I was debating whether I was feeling dizzy because I was utterly overwhelmed after seeing such magnificent orchid displays and arrangements or due the fact that I’d forgotten my lunch. Last year, in February 2014, I was again looking at Orchids and wondering what makes me so drawn to the exotic. I questioned why some people feel attracted to anything strikingly unique while others get agitated every time they are faced with the unknown. Does our willingness to engage with the exotic depend on whether we are ready to embrace new experiences and experiments? Following the new blog tradition, this year I once again made my way to the Alluring Orchids Festival at Kew Gardens to soak up some colour, view the displays, and take a few (ok, very many!) pictures. I feel grateful that year after year, the Kew is helping us disperse the greyness of winter blahs by organising this colourful show. I am a firm believer that colour is the language of soul: colour has an ability to nourish us and lift us out of our quotidian existence. Even though darker colours act as shields and throw us into a contemplative, melancholic state that helps us reflect upon and analyse our ideas, they sometimes, especially in winter, drain our souls and require lots of energy to sustain, while perky colours are especially useful for generating ideas. Bright colours inspire us in unexpected ways. They are always my muse.

В феврале каждого года в Лондоне, в одной из оранжерей Королевских ботанических садов Кью, организуется выставка орхидей. Яркое шоу, на котором представлены тысячи орхидей, открыто в павильоне Принцессы Уэльской и проходит с февраля по 8 марта этого года. Мой блог начинался ровно два года назад именно с рассказа об этом фестивале: тогда у меня еще не было хорошего фотоаппарата, блог велся исключительно на английском, а число читателей не превышало и сотни. Следуя уже установившейся ежегодной традиции, в прошлые выходные я опять наведалась в Сады Кью, чтобы провести время в оранжерее, ведь нет ничего приятнее, чем в хмурый и холодный февральский день сидеть с книгой в теплице, где поддерживается 20-градусная температура, в окружении оригинальных композиций из нежных орхидей. На этот раз к фотографированию удалось подойти со всей ответственностью: из примерно 200 отснятых снимков мне сначала довелось отобрать 68 более-менее интересных, а затем сократить их количество до 44, чтобы не перегружать блог и не отнимать у вас много времени.
