Making a card for grandma #mistletoes
Warning: post about politics. I know you will find it hard to believe but I do often restrain myself from being too opinionated on internet. However, today seems too important to keep silent. I am a business owner. I started this business from nothing in 2004 and I carried it through recession, moving continents and countries, new citizenship, losing everything and going broke, Brexit, non-existing maternity leave, and plummeting pound. There isn’t a day or a moment in my life when I am not thinking or caring about my work. I am very proud of my business - as proud as I am of my family and my son. One thing though that will always matter to me: I will never be a “true business person” and prioritise profit over love and human relationships. I am very close with my team and I love knowing that I pay for someone’s children to attend school and buy books, for a family to cover housing bills and go on holidays. And I love paying taxes. I love paying taxes because I know that they are used to make communities safer, to provide necessary health care to children and the elderly, to give education. It is shocking but over 4 million children are living in poverty in the U.K. today. This number is set to rise to 5 million next year. Even more shockingly, two-thirds of these children have at least one parent in work. I want a political party that cares about this as much as I do. The current government does not feel the pain of children living in poverty, does not feel the pain of EU citizens who have been living here for decades yet suddenly feel unwelcome by the Brexit vote, does not care about the pain of people who already have it hard enough. I am lucky to have the job I love. I will continue building my business, paying my taxes, and prioritising love over profit. And I will continue voting Labour: the only party to me that is about fairness, kindness, and integrity. Labour: for the many, not the few. End of political post, normal broadcasting will resume tomorrow.
2019 for me was a very physically exhausting year, yet it was the happiest of my life too. One lesson I learned this year is not trying to achieve everything together at once. Now I divide my life into different areas: work, family, health, personal development, finances, and social life, and I focus intently only on 3 of them at a time. The rest falls into sidelines. Once I am happy with how things are going in these 3 areas, I pick out 3 others and juggle those. Then I switch again. This system is the closest to the balance in life I could achieve as a mother and a small business owner. Now I wanted to wish you all a wonderful December weekend. This weekend I’m sending out the first of my Christmas cards and wrapping some presents for friends 🎁 I’m also doing my year-end accounts and taking my son to his first West End show. The house decorations, invoicing, and yoga will have to wait until next week. 3 areas, you see? Let the countdown to Christmas officially begin. 🎄 🎄 🎄
Such a lovely day.
